Hey internets- I’m blogging to you live(-ish) from the County courthouse where the Early Voting Election Board has convened to open and prepare for counting by some whack-a-do monstrosity of a machine that’s still using punch cards for data -okay not punch cards, but close- the early voting ballots. Yeah, I’m on the Early Voting Election Board. Sounds important and official uh?
Well just wait till you here that I’m also on the just-plain-ol’-Election Board too! Impressive, no? Yeah, that board observes the opening of voting boxes from each voting precinct, taps the votes into an orderly stack that can be run through the whack-a-do monstrosity and then observes the totals being officially recorded. Are you jealous? Well wait, there’s more: if the whack-a-do monstrosity won’t or can’t read a ballot, we, the Board, get to survey said ballot and make our best guess as to what the voter intended, make the correction with little stickers and then return the ballot to the registrar for counting. Muy importante.
Really it was fun. I got to hang out with some fun people, AND I got to feel like an important part of the process AND I got checks for 32 bucks each from both the local Republicans and Democrats. When else is that gonna happen?
